This particular crop of coffee has received the special designation of "Cafe de Manos de Mujer" by the ACODIHUE (Asociación de Cooperación al Desarrollo Integral de Huehuetenango) cooperative in the mountain region of Cuchumatan. Meaning "Hands of the Woman" in Spanish, Manos de Mujer recognizes the indigenous women who own and cultivate the land on which the coffee was grown. The ACODIHUE cooperative invests in its community by teaching useful skills such as vegetable gardening so that its members can not only further sustain themselves but also sell at local markets to increase their incomes.
